Champion lifter feted

Apart from inaugurating two community halls, Sugunu AC MLA K Ranjit feted Glassgow Commonwealth Games gold medallist weightlifter Kh Sanjita in a grand reception function held at Kakching Khunou Umathel today.
Youth Affairs and Sports Parliamentary Secretary M Prithviraj and MLA K Ranjit attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Incidentally, Sanjita hails from Kakching Khunou Umathel under Sugunu AC, which K Ranjit represents as an MLA.
Speaking at the occasion, M Prithviraj admitted that the State Government is unable to provide necessary modern infrastructure, equipment and job to champion players.
However, the State Government is putting in its best effort to help the aspiring as well as established players from time to time.
K Ranjit while speaking at the function said that Manipur is known as the sports powerhouse of India.
Earning country's name and fame through war is a passe, he added, every country is trying to gain supremacy through sports now.
Expressing environmental degradation, K Ranjit urged the gathering to plant more and more tree saplings.
Kakching Khunou Umathel is an area where most people adopt farming and agriculture as their main occupation, K Ranjit, as such it is environment protection is a must to get water in their field on time.
The MLA also stressed on the need for proper nurturing of the saplings after plantation.
A cash prize of Rs 1,30,000 was handed over to Sanjita by K Ranjit.
He also inaugurated community halls at two different localities later.
Around 2000 saplings were planted from Kakching Khunou Lamkhai to Kakching Khunou Khundon.
