Fitting tributes paid to Arambam Samarendra

Befitting tributes were paid to eminent writer and leader Arambam Samarendra on his 24th death anniversary observed today across the State.
The 24th death anniversary of Arambam Samarendra was observed at Heirok Part-II City Club Playground organised by Chingdompok Ideal Top Youth Club, Heirok Part-II Litan Makhong.
The observance was attended by Pambei-led UNLF finance secretary Irengbam Tonshana; Chingdompok Ideal Top Youth Club president Ningthoujam Ibomcha; former Thoubal Zilla Parishad Kh Sobha; Heirok Zilla Parishad former member M Rajmani; Pambei-led UNLF Chief of Army Staff Khwairakpam Khomba; former pradhans of Heirok Part-I , II and III Gram Panchayat Thokchom Premjit, Laishram Khamba and Ahongshangbam Jugindro respectively; former Leirongthel-Ningel GP pradhan Salam Kumar; UPACO president Mayengbam Premjit; FOCS president Th Manihar; and vice-president BM Shah as special guests.

The dignitaries led in paying floral tributes to the photo Arambam Samarendra and observed two-minute silence in his honour.
The dignitaries while speaking at the occasion recalled Arambam Samarendra as a visionary leader who had immense love for his motherland Manipur and who strove sincerely for the development of the society.
His remarkable contributions in the field of literature were also lauded.
It may be noted that he was shot dead by unidentified miscreants while he was attending a public function at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai on June 10, 2000 .
As a part of the observance, a Mukna match was played between Kakching Pana and Heirok Pana in a bid to promote this indigenous wrestling sport.
