Guv attends Ukhrul school's diamond jubilee celebration

Governor of Manipur and Nagaland, Dr Ashawani Kumar today attended the diamond jubilee celebration of Sacred Hearts Higher Secondary School at Hungpung, Ukhrul.
The celebration programme was marked by lively display of talents show, traditional folk dance and spectacular presentation of melodious numbers from students of the school.
The Governor and his wife Chandan AK Kumar were given a rousing reception at the Sacred Heart School ground.
Governor Dr Ashawani Kumar unveiled the jubilee monolith which was followed by releasing of doves and balloon to mark the jubilee celebration by Rev Dominic Lumon DD, Archbishop of Imphal.
Dr Ashawani Kumar also unfurled the School's flag.
Addressing the gatherings, the Governor acknowledged the service of Christian Missionaries in the State for revolutionising the state of education at their best effort.
He also made a suggestion to adopt the Private Public Partnership model for bettering school administration.
Although there are 3092 schools under the State Govt and ADCs with 41 Central schools and 1030 Private, Christian schools and Govt aided schools, only 33% of the students in the State studied in Govt school, he said.
SZ Samuel, Chief Security Commissioner of NF Railway, an alumnus of the School attended the programme as its special guest.
Huge turn up of alumni, students, and special invitees made the programme a success.
Dr SK Chourasia, DC, Ukhrul and Rev Joseph emeritus Archbishop also attended the function.
Principal Fr Rev Shaji in his welcome address deliberated the academic achievements since 1953 till today.
He said the school has a long list of bureaucrats, politicians, artists, writers, priests, social workers, engineers, doctors etc who got their education at the school.
The Diamond Jubilee Souvenir was dedicated to the School founder (L) Dominic Ahomi As and (L) Rev Fr Mathew Planthottam for their marvellous services.
John F Khavangpam alumni retired ZEO on behalf of Alumni Association assured the construction of School library hall in memory of Diamond jubilee celebration.
Principal Secretary of PWD, Ram Muivah, IAS, an alumni of the school said the school has produced the largest number of elites in the district.
Another alumni, Dr SV Ngachan, Director ICAR NEH, Shillong also thanked his alma-mater for taking the responsibility to shape so many leaders and bureaucrats.
The school is under the management of Archdiocess Imphal.
