DEO calls for participation, says it is inclusive and accessible

The DEO Churachandpur today called on voters of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts to participate in the general election scheduled for Thursday and make it a grand success.
Saying that the democratic exercise will have meaning only when people participate, Shyam Lal Poonia, who is overseeing the poll process for 6 Assembly segments in Churachandpur and Pherzawl, said to make the Lok Sabha poll an inclusive and accessible for all, 100 polling stations in the district will be manned by all women polling personnel.
74 polling stations in Churachandpur AC and 26 in Saikot AC will have all women personnel.
In addition, B Vengnom polling station under Saikot AC will be manned exclusively by PwD personnel to facilitate 100 percent vote by PwDs, he said.
Six Assembly segments under Churachandpur and Pherzawl have a total of 615 PwDs.
The figure for the same was 130 in the last Assembly election.
It may be mentioned that Centre for Community Initiative (CCI), an NGO working on disability has conducted spot survey of 10 polling stations in Churachandpur town on April 3 to obtain accessibility data and found that 'not a single one of the polling stations have all the required provisions of ramp, toilet and railing'.
While some have 'either one or two of the provisions, three are said to have none' .
Nevertheless, the NGO has said that their survey was conducted three days back and expressed hope that 'everything will be sorted out by April 11' .
The Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency will go to poll on April 11 .
