Imphal, February 09 2025:
L Sotinkumar, former State secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council, has urged all the legislators to prioritize safeguarding Manipur's interests in the upcoming Assembly session over political power struggles.
Addressing the media at Irawat Bhavan today, the Left leader expressed desire for the Assembly session which is scheduled to begin tomorrow to be a pivotal and meaningful one.
The Assembly session meanwhile has been called off later in the evening.
Despite the need for a focused and constructive Assembly session, the political landscape in Manipur is currently marred by intense power struggles, he said.
Saying that resolving the crisis in Manipur requires comprehensive discussion in the House, Sotinkumar urged all the legislators to take a collective resolution to resolve the crisis and safeguard the integrity of Manipur and forward the same to the Centre.
The ongoing crisis has resulted in significant challenges for the Meetei people, including restricted movement in hill districts and skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, he said while urging the Government to implement adequate security measures along National Highways and ensure safe passage of people and goods.
How the Centre has been handling the crisis in Manipur is unacceptable, Sotinkumar said and urged the Government to rein in the Kuki narco-terrorists and initiate a political dialogue to restore normalcy in Manipur.
The Left leader also asked both the Centre and the State Government to work together to address the economic challenges facing Manipur and to resettle the internally displaced persons at their respective places.
He also urged the Government to not treat the village volunteers like anti-National elements.
