185th death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh observed at Jiri and Tbl

The 185th Death Anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh organized by Maharaja Gambhir Singh Death Anniversary Observation Committee, (MGSDAOC) Jiribam District, Manipur was observed at the Auditorium Hall of Ningsing Khul Biodiversity Park, Jiribam today at 10.30 am.
The function was attended by Kh Janaki Devi, adhyaksha zilla parishad, Jiribam District; B Sarat Sharma, chairman Observation Committee, Jiribam; Sunil Karam, president, UCM, Manipur; Nongthombam Rupachandra, vice-president, UPF, Manipur; Dr Kunjalal Yendrembam, Silchar, Tarapur, Assam; S Maniton Singh, gen secy Senior Citizen Society, Jiribam; and K Gopendra Meetei, secy Far West UFO, Jiribam as presidium members.

The function began with the lighting of flame by the chief guest Kh Janaki Devi while Y Romeo Singh, convener, MGSDAOC, Jiribam district addressed the welcome speech during the function.
The key note speech was delivered by L Romen Singh, president JDO, Jiribam district while presidium members and the public paid floral tributes to the picture of late Maharaja Gambhir Singh as a mark of respect.
Speaking at the occasion, guest of honour Sunil Karam, president UCM said that the day was observed to honour the great courage and valour of Maharaja Gambhir Singh who had saved scores of his compatriot from the tyranny of Burmese Awa and added that today's generation must learn one thing that "United we stand, divided we fall" .
Chief guest Kh Janaki Devi said that the function is an important day for all and will be remembered in days to come and added that our young generation should remember our courageous and charismatic king.
During the function, many invitees also spoke at length about the bravery and lively spirit of late Maharaja Gambhir Singh.
Many Civil Society Organizations, Students' Organizations and individuals also attended the function today.
Thoubal: Meanwhile, the 185th death anniversary of Maharaja Gambhir Singh was also observed at Peace And Freedom Academy, Haokha Sorarel, Thoubal jointly organized by Peace And Freedom Academy, Thoubal in association with Manipur Human Rights Organisation today.
The function was attended by former member Manipur Human Rights Commission, Advocate Ngangbam Nongyai as chief guest and managing director Peace And Freedom Academy, Thoubal, Soibam Bishworjit as functional president.
Floral tributes and respect were paid to the photo of late Maharaja Gambhir Singh and his army by the public.
Secretary Manipur Human Rights Organisation, Dr N Shantakumar and social activist Dr N C Shanta attended the function as resource persons and spoke in detail about seven years devastation (chahi taret khuntakpa) and the aftermath, relations between India and Awa (Myanmer), merger agreement etc.
