Deficit rain leaves farmers in dire straits

Deficit rain in the State has left many farmers in dire straits and the farmers of Shamulamlan Sub division in Churachandpur district are no exception.
'60, 61 Sagang Loukol' which includes the paddy fields of Lamyai, Shamdel, Langambi, Lairensibi, Nungthang, Dampi, Shangom Shumbi, Thumkhong, Tharoipokpi and Keibidak are among the worst affected.
In this regard, a team of Agriculture Department Churachandpur, Progessive Farmers Association and local farmers inspected the paddy fields.
Speaking to media persons, Progressive Farmers Association Sagang president, M Rekhupsong Kom expressed his anguish over the current state of the paddy fields and urged the Chief Minister N Biren Singh to provide assistance through the State Disaster Management Fund or any other State/Centrally sponsored schemes to the farmers.

District Agriculture Officer Churachandpur, M Ginzalin stated after inspecting the paddy fields of Shamulamlan Sub division's 60, 61 Sagang Loukol, it has been seen that most of the paddy fields in the area are in a bad shape and could not be harvested.
The inspection was participated by Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer, Mk Elizabeth; Village Executive Worker in charge, Shamulamlan Block, Tejmani & Michael; Progressive Farmers Association Sagang president, M Rekhupsong Kom; vice president, M Achung Kom; LV Asong Kom; general secretary, L Thangkhupreng Kom and other members of the association.
