HBOT Centre opened at RIMS

Imphal, April 08 2024: A Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Centre was inaugurated today at Burn Unit, RIMS, Imphal by Professor G Sunil Kumar, Director, RIMS.

The HBOT Centre was inaugurated in the presence of Professor N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Imphal; RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS Imphal; Sairem Sarat Singh, CAO/FA, RIMS and Dr Ak Ibohal Singh, HOD, Department of Plastic Surgery, RIMS Imphal, said a statement issued by N Phillip Singh, media advisor, RIMS Imphal.

In his inaugural address, the RIMS Director stated that RIMS is the first to install HBOT Centre in the entire North East region.

The therapy involves breathing oxygen at a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure and administered in specially designed chambers which helps create an ambient pressure 2-3 times higher than that found at sea level to help dissolve oxygen into the bloodstream.

This increases the oxygen delivery to tissues by 10-15 times as compared to the amount received through normal breathing.

Stimulating new blood vessels and capillary growth can aid in wound healing and also removal of toxins and waste products.

Thus, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has documented benefits in many diseases such as diabetic foot ulcers, wound healing, severe anaemia, delayed radiation injury or radiation necrosis, traumatic brain injury, compromised grafts and flaps, vision loss or sudden hearing loss, brain abscess etc, he said.

Further, the Medical Superintendent thanked the RIMS Authority for procuring the high-priced equipment which will benefit the public in different spectrum of treatment.

Out patients can also avail the facility at RIMS Hospital, Imphal.

They will be charged a minimal fee to take advantage of the facility, he informed.

Today's inaugural program was attended by HODs, faculty members as well as nursing officials and staff of RIMS, Imphal.

Separately, Professor G Sunil Kumar Sharma also inaugurated a new staff parking and main gate for the Department of Psychiatry and Department of Clinical Psychology, RIMS Imphal today in the presence of Professor N Sanjib Singh, MS, RIMS Imphal; RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS Imphal; Sairem Sarat Singh, CAO/FA, RIMS, Imphal; Dr S Gojendra Singh, HOD, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal; Professor RK Lenin Singh, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal and Dr Sameeta Ng, HOD, Department of Clinical Psychology, RIMS, Imphal.
