Hospitalised after consuming ORS DESAM to launch drive

A young housewife has been hospitalised after consuming Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) today.
Meanwhile, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) impounded expired cold drinks and beverage of different brands from a shop and handed them over to the police along with the seller.
According to a source, Thuigangmei Longmei (30) w/o Lucky of Ragailong Maning Leikai collapsed after consuming ORS today around 11.30 am.
She was immediately rushed to JNIMS hospital for treatment.
Thuigangmei asked a person to get the ORS for her after feeling physically weak today morning.
The woman reportedly felt uneasiness after consuming the ORS (in tetra pack) with a slightly different taste which was purchased from a shop in the locality.
After about 15 minutes, the woman drenched with sweats, collapsed.
She was immediately rushed to JNIMS hospital.
She is however said to be stable now.
Meanwhile, volunteers of DESAM today at around 4.30 pm impounded large amount of expired cold drink and beverage items of different brands from a shop.
The volunteers handed over the impounded items along with the shop owner to the police.
Speaking to reporters later in the evening, general secretary of DESAM, Pukhrambam Premchandra said a student of DM College of Science complained of nausea and uneasiness after consuming Maaza which was purchased from a shop at the Eastern gate of the college today.
After close examination, it was found that the Maaza had crossed the expiry date.
On receiving the information, volunteers of the students' body inspected the shop and found many cold drink and beverage items like Fanta, ORS, 7 Up, Coca-Cola, Appy, Frooty, Maaza, Mirinda, Sprite, Minute Maid put on sale even after crossing the expiry date, he said.
The owner of the shop along with the expired items were handed over to the police later.
The shop owner has been identified as one Surjit Kumar (28) s/o Kanhai Prajapati of Uttar Pradesh and now residing at Imphal, the DESAM leader said.
There have been instances when hazardous items were impounded by concerned CSOs and Govt dept.
DESAM urged all concerned not to sell expired items and items which pose health hazards.
The students' body will also launch a drive against such sale of illegal items without prior notice in future, Premananda said.
He also suspected the involvement of agents and dealers in running the racket.
Premananda further urged all concerned to give information to DESAM in case they come across such illegal items.
