Imphal, February 07 2025:
Womenfolk of Malom area staged a sit-in protest at Malom Tulihal today, demanding Chief Minister N Biren Singh's resignation.
They're calling for his (the Chief Minister) removal due to his alleged inability to resolve the crisis in Manipur, which has claimed over a hundred lives since May 3, 2023 and displaced tens of thousands of people.
The womenfolk also expressed their anguish over the alleged crack down on village volunteers and students by Central and State security forces.
Speaking to the media on the sideline of the protest demonstration, K Anita, president of Malom Tulihal Awang Leikai Meira Paibi, said that N Biren is unfit to be the Chief Minister and as such he must step down immediately.
She also said that MLAs and Ministers who support the Chief Minister must also resign.
Anita, meanwhile, said that they staged the protest demonstration to express their condemnation against the alleged brute force being used by the security personnel on village volunteers and students.
She also said that police commandos who were involved in killing a 'village volunteer' at Salungpham must be terminated and the SP of Thoubal must be transferred to either Churachandpur or Kangpokpi.
She also demanded immediate withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958 from Manipur's central valley districts.
