Imphal, November 06 2024:
All Inter-Village Roads (IVRs) under Wangoi Assembly Constituency will be reconstructed and widened to 18 feet, said local MLA Khuraijam Loken.
He announced this during a programme held to inaugurate an open gym at Wakching Khullen (Govinda Gram) Awang Leikai today.
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba and the local MLA inaugurated the "Open Gym cum Public Park" .
The open gym at Wakching Khullen Awang Leikai is one of 17 such gyms being constructed across the Constituency.
Speaking at the programme, Loken said that development should meet the requirements of the growing population and as such infrastructure in the Constituency must evolve and enhance.
He said, all the Inter Village Roads (IVRs) in Wangoi Assembly Constituency are between 11-12 feet wide and these roads need to be upgraded and widened.
Widening the IVRs to 18 feet now will ease congestions and benefit the communities in the future, he added.
Stating that all roads in the Constituency will be upgraded to ease daily commute, the MLA said every development effort needs the cooperation and support of the people.
"No one should see development projects with a politically motivated narrow vision.
People should welcome development, and they should be free to cast votes to their choice of candidates during elections," Loken said.
The MLA said the open gyms being installed at 17 different locations are aimed at promoting public health.
All the people including the elderly will benefit from the open gym.
He clarified that the construction of an open gym at Wangoi has not started yet due to an issue concerning the location.
The current turmoil due to the conflict has disrupted development projects, but he has been doing everything in his capacity to bring development in the Constituency, Loken said.
He further advised people to properly maintain all public properties, urging MGNREGA workers to work sincerely.
Merely working for the camera will not bring development.
They should be sincere in their work to bring development in the region, he said.
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba also spoke to the people and advised youths to stay away from illicit drugs.
He cited a report and stated that 1.5 to 2 lakh people, out of around 30 lakh population of the State, including school children are using drugs.
Leishemba said drug addiction is hard to overcome and it harms the individuals and the society.
The open gyms being installed at 17 locations across the Constituency is a positive step that would promote good health among the community, he said, urging people to use and maintain the gyms properly.
The inauguration programme, organised by the Puthiba Nongshaba Lai Committee, was also attended by Lairenjam Meijrao Gram Panchayat Chairperson Tongbram Manglemba and Kodompokpi Zilla Parishad's former Member, Loitongbam Surchandra Singh.
