Chingakham Pishak remembered

The 108th birth anniversary of educationist Chingkham Pishak was held at Manipur Dramatic Union hall on Sunday.
Eminent personalities including former MLA O Joy, Professor MC Arun, veteran journalist K Modhumangol, retired IAS P Bhorot and retired AIR director Sagolsem Indrakumar Singh categorically spoke on the life and works of Pishak.
Besides being instrumental in bringing about quality education in Manipur, Pishak became a frontliner against the erroneous systems of the Government for which he was arrested many times and put in jail.
A resident of Yaiskul Janmasthan, Pishak was associated with Nikhil Hindu Manipuri Mahasabha, Nikhil Manipuri Mahasabha, Kanglei League, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad and MPP and he took a key role in social reformation.
He was also the principal of Manipur College for ten years.

He was elected to the first Manipur State Assembly in 1948 which was dissolved after Manipur merged with the Union of India.
A book encompassing various subject matters including Pishak's works penned by K Modhumangol was also released at the occasion organized by Oja Chingkham Pishak Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee.
