Imphal, August 06 2013:
The 21st World Breast Feeding Week jointly observed since August 1 by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit, Chingamathak and Social Welfare Department concluded today at Bal Bhavan, Khuman Lampak.
The concluding function of the World Breast Feeding Week observed under the theme 'Breast-feeding Support: Close to Mothers' was attended by Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) Barun Mitra as chief guest and Social Welfare Director L Ibobi as president.
Speaking at the occasion, L Ibobi noted that the rate of breast feeding has declined considerably.
Although artificial foods can cater to children's food requirements, their nutritional value is much lesser compared to mother's milk.
Ibobi went on to assert that mother's milk is the best food for children.
The function culminated with distribution of prizes to winners of recipe and quiz competitions held earlier in connection with the World Breast Feeding Week.
