Imphal, May 06 2015 :
BJP Manipur Pradesh president Thounaojam Chaoba has accused the State Government of violating the election code of conduct for the upcoming ADC elections with the State Cabinet's decision to fill up 113 vacant posts of DIET centres and directly purchase 100 acres of land for the establishment of an IIIT at Mayangkhang Ningthoupham village in Senapati district.
Addressing a press conference at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of the State BJP, Th Chaoba accused O Ibobi-led Congress Government of trying to woo the voters of ADC election with yesterday's Cabinet decisions.
No Government can announce any soap/scheme and take any decision which may woo the voters after the issuance of election code of conduct, he added.
He said that BJP Manipur Pradesh has lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission against the State Government regarding the matter today.
Expressing his party's disapproval of the State Cabinet's decision to directly purchase land in the name of development, Chaoba questioned how the State Government would acquire land when efforts are being made to amend the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013 by the NDA Government at the Centre.
The State BJP president also questioned why the State Government is so eager to purchase land directly at a time when there is no money in the State coffer even to pay the salary and pension of State Government employees.
He further said that it is also questionable why the State Government wants to set up a Sports University at Yaithibi Loukol, which is normally a low lying area.
As such, the State Government, which is working at their own whims and fancies, must resign, he said.
Saying that Congress has fielded independent candidates in some ADC constituencies due to a ban imposed on the ruling party, Th Chaoba said that such tactics indicate the weakness of Congress.
On the other hand, no candidate other than Congress candidate is allowed to contest election in Kuki areas by some organisations.
It is an indication of the State Government's failure to maintain law and order, he added.
Th Chaoba said that SoO signatory Kuki armed organisations are intimidating and abducting BJP candidates to force them to withdraw their candidatures.
These organisations have violated the ground rules of SoO with the abduction of two BJP candidates from Sadar Hills and Churachandpur, he added.
Taking part at the press conference, former Minister M Hemanta said that there is a land crisis in Thoubal district.
The State Cabinet has violated the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Act, he added.
Former BJP Manipur Pradesh president M Bhorot said that the State Government must disclose where Rs 1500 crore, recently provided by the Centre, has been used.
Saying that the Centre can't be blamed for not providing enough fund to the State, Bhorot said that the Centre has cut down funds due to the 'financial indiscipline' of the State Government.
