Nine AR men hurt in twin grenade blasts

Imphal, February 06 2018:
At least nine Assam Rifles personnel have been injured when two bombs exploded in quick succession inside their Minuthong transit camp this evening.
According to information culled from the spot, two hand grenades exploded in quick succession at around 5.40 pm near a laundry opened inside the highly fortified camp which is also guarded round the clock.
Out of the nine personnel who were injured in the twin blasts, seven were taken to Shija Hospital while two were discharged after giving first aid.
The injured victims have been identified as Rajkishore, Pradeep Sharma, S Pradhan, Dependra Subarbi, H Konyak, Rajesh Kumar, Sanju Lamba, Amar Sargari and Umesh Kumar.
The first five are Riflemen of 8 AR while the others are posted at 2 AR, 25 AR, 33 AR and 45 AR.
None of them are said to be critical.
DGP LM Khaute and top officers of Assam Rifles came and inspected the blast site.
Even though police have started investigation into the twin blasts, media persons were not allowed to enter the transit camp on the ground that it is a restricted area.
Notably, there is a commando complex of Manipur Police to the western side of the transit camp.
There have been repeated incidents of bomb blasts around the transit camp and in some cases there were big casualties.
Two other AR personnel sustained injuries when two hand grenades exploded at Mapal Kangjeibung yesterday where the 15th DGAR Sentinel Cup Equestrian Championship is going on.
Earlier, on January 15, a woman sweeper was injured when a bomb exploded on the footpath running in front of M Sector and Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
