Imphal, September 05 2020:
Following the death of the minor girl at RIMS ICU Ward on September 3, many have demanded speedy trial and befitting punishment to all culprits.
Denouncing the heinous crime committed against the minor, North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) activists today held a protest demonstration denouncing the incident and crime against women at Yaralpat, Imphal East.
The incident points to an increase in incidents of brutal crimes against women in recent years in Manipur and in the country.

It highlights the hollowness of the Governments' promises and claims of ensuring safety to women, NEFIS said in a statement.
Denouncing the incident, United Women Rights Defenders (UWRD) has written to Governor Najma Heptulla appealing for necessary actions to speed up the investigation for early justice to the family members.
It appealed the Governor for award of compensation "directly" to the victim's family.
It also appealed the Governor to take up necessary measures to constitute a committee including women and chaired by a retired Judge of the Supreme Court to make assessment of cases of rape, rape and murder and serious cases of crime against women in Manipur.
Youths' Sporting Association, Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, All Tulihal United Clubs' Organisation, Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak, KSA Women Wing also denounced the incident and demanded befitting and stringent punishment to all those found guilty of the heinous crime.
Human Rights Council of Manipur too strongly condemned the incident and demanded capital punishment to all those involved in the case and found guilty.
Condemning the incident in the strongest term, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) has also demanded award of capital punishment to the culprits.
Such crimes can be reduced to a great extent if the dedicated Fast Track Courts start functioning smoothly awarding befitting punishments to the culprits.
The culprits should not be spared and awarded the death sentence as done in the infamous Nirbhaya's case, CADA said while adding that all concerned should ensure a fair trial and judgement.
Meanwhile, members of AMMOCOC (All Manipur Muslims Organisations Coordinating Committee), AMMWDO (All Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation) and AMMGSU (All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union) staged a candle light protest against the "brutal killing" of the minor girl today at around 6.30 pm.
AMMOCOC president SM Jalal and AMMWDO president Sitara Begum took part in the protest.
Three clubs of Yairipok Ningthounai, IYDO, SODU and CPC too organised a candle light vigil condemning the incident today and demanded stringent punishment.
