Provisional report for census 2011 released

Provisional report for census 2011 (population totals, rural-urban distribution) Paper II, Manipur Series 15 was released today.
The provisional census report was released by Census Operations Manipur Director Y Thamkishore at a simple function held at the Directorate of Census Operations at Porompat.
According to the report, the total population of Manipur has reached 27, 21,756 .
The report also gave a detailed account of rural-urban distribution as well as literacy rate.
Director Thamkishore also made a power point presentation at the release function which was attended by Deputy Commissioners of several districts.
Out of the total population of 27,21,756, the report put 18,99,624 under rural category while 8,22,132 people live in urban areas.
The average population growth rate is 18.65 per cent.
Rural growth rate is 10.58 per cent whereas the urban growth rate is 42.74 per cent.
Overall sex ration is 1000:987, that is 987 females to per 1000 males.
This is 1000:966 in rural areas and 1000:1038
in urban areas.
The number of literate people is 18,91,196.Of these, 12,68,881 are rural people while 6,22,315 are inhabitants of urban areas.
Literacy rate of Manipur as the per the provisional report is 79.85 .
