Imphal, May 05 2018:
For expansion of Lilong-Kongkhang section of the Imphal-Moreh highway which would connect the State and the country to South East Asian countries, an estimate for payment of land compensation for the stretch extending from Wangjing to Kongkhang has been furnished to National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
The estimate furnished by the State Government for payment of land compensation amounts to Rs 165.4 crore, informed a source.
Notably, Wangjing-Kongkhang portion would be expanded to the status of a two-lane highway equipped with pave shoulder.
After due screening, the estimate has been sent to the NHIDCL headquarters.
The estimate would be finalised after NHIDCL sends it to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
With the exception of certain stretches which run within Thoubal district, all land owners affected by the expansion of Wangjing-Kongkhang portion residing within Kakching, Chandel and Tengnoupal district would be paid compensation.
However, there is no guarantee that MoRTH would sanction the whole estimate of Rs 165.4 crore, said the source.
Lilong-Wangjing portion of the same highway would be expanded to the level of a four-lane highway but the State Government is yet to furnish any estimate for payment of land compensation.
It is said that the State Government has been negotiating with the affected land owners for direct purchase, informed the source.
For this highway project the Centre sanctioned Rs 1630 crore to MoRTH in 2016, added the source.
