Imphal, November 04 2015:
The Principals Association for Recognized Schools (PARS), Ukhrul today submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul addressing the plight of the hill people with the prevailing education system of the State.
The PARS in association with the parent body Hill Districts Private Schools Association, Manipur (HIDIPSAM) formally submitted the memorandum calling for timely intervention on the demand to reintroduce Additional English as an optional paper instead of MIL as done by BOSEM.
According to the memo, bifurcation of BOSEM into hill and valley section is called for because it has failed to understand the plight of the hill people especially in the education sector.
In a brief interaction with this correspondent, president of PARS and vice president of HIDIPSAM Alex Khayi said that in spite of repeated appraisals, BOSEM has turned deaf ear to the demands and grievances of the hill schools.
The persistent apathy of BOSEM towards the tribal community is intolerable, he added.
From the academic session 2013-14, BOSEM cancelled Additional English and imposed MIL as the optional subject, which is against the interest and demand of the hill students.
He further mentioned that many tribal dialects are yet to be recognised formally.
PARS secretary Bosco said that BOSEM is charging examination fees without differentiating the regular and external candidates, which is unfair.
He further questioned why BSEM restrict transfer of students from valley to hills but is not against transfer from hills to valley.
Review the biased BSEM education policy, he demanded.
Members of PARS also expressed disappointment over recurrence of errors at BOSEM office while filling up bio-data of a student for appearing in the examination.
Considering all these woes and inconveniences faced at BSEM, PARS under the aegis of HIDIPSAM urged the immediate intervention of the CM to overhaul the education system by bifurcating BSEM into hills and valley in the wider interest of the tribal community as well as for handling other issues more efficiently.
