Imphal, August 04 2024:
Upgrading RIMS Imphal to AIIMS status requires the authorities to work sincerely and make the institution free of alleged irregularities, said socio-political commentator Ch Bijoy today.
He was appreciating MP Dr Bimol Akoijam for demanding the upgradation of the RIMS to AIIMS status on the floor of Parliament when he made the statement.
Speaking to reporters at his residence at Lamphel, Ch Bijoy said he appreciates and supports the call made by MP Dr Bimol Akoijam in the Parliament recently.
However, the institution is marred with several issues and irregularities.
The authorities must work sincerely and make the institutions free of all alleged irregularities for it to be upgraded to AIIMS status, he said.
During 2006-2007, then Chief Minister O Ibobi pushed for upgradation of RIMS to AIIMS status.
To pave the way for the upgrade and make room for infrastructure development, the Government gave the hospital around 300 acres of additional land, 10 acres more than what was asked by the RIMS authority, Ch Bijoy said.
However, the institution has been marred by several issues in the last 17 years.
There have been tussles for posts among the administrative authorities.
There have also been cases of alleged corruption and other irregularities.
Some have approached the Court in some cases, Ch Bijoy said.
When these issues are plaguing RIMS, upgrading it to the status of AIIMS is not feasible.
The institution must first clean off all the dirt and only then, it can be upgraded, he added.
