Manipur State Commission for Women organised a one-day State level seminar under the theme, 'Women and children with HIV: Economic-Psycho Social Implication', at Imphal Hotel conference hall today.
Social Welfare Minister Manipur AK Mirabai and Manipur State Commission for Women Chairperson Dr L Ibetombi attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
MLA O Landhoni and Social Welfare Deputy Director Th Joychandra were also present as guests of honour.
In her keynote address, Dr L Ibetombi said that the seminar was organized to give awareness and disseminate information about HIV.
Manipur has been a focus State because of its high prevalence rate, she added.
She further added that as Manipur is the worst HIV affected State in the country it has been a major challenge for all the people of Manipur.
Speaking at the occasion, AK Mirabai said that in the Manipuri society, women face the suffering and humiliations from the society and though many organizations and Government have made their efforts in eradicating the disease.
She further said that the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, Departments and social organizations must join hands and fight against it because only unity and mutual understanding can succeed.
