The 14-hour general strike called by the Co-ordination Committee of seven underground outfits boycotting the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi ended peacefully this evening.
Although, the general strike from 4 am to 6 pm badly affected normal life, hundreds of Congress workers from different parts of the State thronged Kangla for a public meeting address by the Central leaders.
Even though all the Government offices were open, attendance was minimal.
Schools and colleges remained shut while markets in Imphal and nearby localities wore deserted look during the strike period.
All passenger services were suspended and vehicles were off the roads during the said strike.
However, many vehicles with Congress flags were seen transporting Congress workers to Kangla.
