Special Gram Sabhas held

Special Gram Sabhas were conducted at Maibam Uchiwa and Saiton Gram Panchayat yesterday to deliberate over the Panchayat Development Programmes to be undertaken by the respective GPs.
It may be noted that these Sabhas are being organised after Gram Panchayats and Zilla Parishads were rendered defunct for more than a year and a recent Manipur High Court order directed the State to allow the members of Gram Panchayat Administrative Committees to continue functioning.
Saiton Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee conducted the special Gram Sabha at Saiton Bazar Community Hall yesterday.
The special Gram Sabha was attended by Mayengbam Ibomcha, chairperson, Saiton Gram Panchayat Administrative Committee; social worker L Manimohon Sharma; senior citizen N Radhagobin; retired teacher H Shrinibash Sharma and Administrative Committee members of Saiton GP Administrative Committee.
The Sabha discussed various areas of interest such as Panchayat Development Index (PDI) score to identify the gaps and areas that need improvement in rural areas, preparation of draft development status report, village poverty reduction plan from SHG/ Federation under MSRLM and its inclusion in Gram Panchayat Development Plan, installation of public information board in prominent public places, renewal of village water and sanitation committee, approval of supplementary plan under MGNREGS 2024-25, stop child marriage campaign, birth and death registrations among others.
As a part of the Sabha, Mayengbam Ibomcha also distributed cash rewards to the Anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHA facilitators of Saiton GP from the GP's own revenue.
Additionally, the gathering resolved to launch a concerted drive against drug use and maintaining cleanliness in Saiton GP.
Similarly, Maibam Uchiwa Gram Panchayat conducted a special Gram Sabha at Maibam Mayai Leikai Community Hall yesterday afternoon.
The special Gram Sabha discussed developmental initiatives and future activities to be undertaken by the Maibam Uchiwa GP.
According to a press release issued by Wangjam Premapati Leima, Pradhan, Maibam Uchiwa Gram Panchayat, the Sabha was presided over by W Shyamjai Meitei, chairperson, Maibam Uchiwa GP while Md Iqbal Khan, Member, Maibam Uchiwa Gram Panchayat was present as chief guest.
Members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Maibam Uchiwa GP under the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM) also attended the special Gram Sabha held yesterday.
