Continuing the campaign for dissemination of information about various centrally-sponsored schemes in Manipur, an 8-day long photo exhibition on the theme of 'Development Initiatives in North East' began since yesterday at Ningthoukhong Community Hall in Bishnupur District.
The mass awareness campaign which would continue till July 9 is being organized by the Field Exhibition Office, Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Imphal in collaboration with Ningthoukhong Municipal Council.
Rolling the 8-day long campaign into motion, Maisnam Ongbi Bimola Devi, Chairperson of Ningthoukhong Municipal Council, who attended as Chief Guest, said that the Government of India is taking up various development schemes for the welfare of the people.
The chairperson also highlighted some of the development schemes taken up by the Council such as construction of park, water tanks, drainage, garbage stand, culvert, public urinal, public toilet, low cost latrine, crematorium with fencing, waiting shed, open bathroom, etc.
She said that these schemes have been successfully implemented by the Council.
Impressed by the collection of photos from different states of North East, Bimola Devi termed the exhibition as 'excellent' .
Gracing the opening ceremony as Functional President, M Mohenkumar Singh, Councillor of Ningthoukhong Municipal Council, advocated the role of mass media for nation's development.
Maintaining that visual is a strong medium of communication, the Councillor, quoting 'a picture speaks a thousand words' encouraged the public to take the opportunity of visiting the exhibition.
One can learn many things relating to different states by seeing the photographs, he said.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Gin Gangte, IIS, Field Exhibition Officer, DAVP, Imphal explained the various development schemes undertaken by the Government of India for the welfare of the people.
He said that the main purpose of organizing the photo exhibition is to create mass awareness of various development projects such as MGNREGS, NRHM, RMSA, SSA, Total Sanitation Campaign, etc.
The Field Exhibition Officer also appealed to the public to visit the exhibition hall so as to have a better understanding of the policies and programs of the central government.
The first day of the exhibition witnessed many enthusiastic visitors.
Many students were seen thronging the exhibition hall.
'I am much delighted to see vast collection of photographs.
I learn many things from this exhibition', said Roshni, a student.
An elderly visitor narrated that he likes the photographs pertaining to Sikkim.
A collection of about 130 photographs covering the whole of North East, including Sikkim are on being displayed for the exhibition.
