Seminar on climate change begins

A two-day regional seminar on 'Impact of Climate Change on Aquatic Biodiversity' organised by DM College of Science's Department of Zoology under the sponsorship of University Grant Commission's Institutional Biotech Hub has begun from today.
former Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof IS Khaidem and DMC Science Principal Dr P Ranabir Singh attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest and president respectively.
MU Prof N Rajmuhon Singh, former DMC Sc Principal G Tomba Sharma, MU Prof W Vishwanath Singh, LDA Managing director Th Ibobi Singh, RTRS director (Retd) Dr N Ibohal Singh and Dr Kh Rajmani Singh of DMC Sc were the guests of honour.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof Vishwanath said in December 2003 the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 58/217 proclaiming year 2005-2015 as inter-national decade for action on 'Water for Life' .
The said resolution implies that member nations initiate all possible measures to halve the people lacking access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015, said the MU professor.
He also pointed out that the North East India comprising of eight States has diverse and rich bio-diversity.
The afternoon session had a number of resource persons elaborate on the seminar theme and related issues.
