Lamka, November 02 2012:
Over one hundred and fifty bike-riders have been penalized in the past two days as the mandatory helmet for two-wheelers came into effect here from yesterday.
The district Traffic police personnel were assisted by the District Transport officials for the past two days in enforcing the mandatory helmet.
They have, in the process, detained over one hundred two wheelers for flouting the new norm.
All of them were however let-off after duly slapping nominal fines, sources in the Traffic police said.
Sudden rise in mishap mortality rate has forced the district administration here to seek safety regulation under the country's MV Act for the first time.
The regulation was implemented since yesterday after giving residents about a month-time to organize themselves.
However, there seems to be a handful of people who are peeved in the process as well.
