Imphal, June 02 2018:
Students of Manipur University continued their protest today condemning the failure of the university's VC Professor Adya Prasad Pandey to take up any positive welfare initiatives for the students and the university.
Under the aegis of Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU), a large number of students blocked the main gate of the university for around 20 minutes.
Soon, a team of Imphal West district police arrived at the scene and successfully pacified the students without any unwanted incidents.
Speaking to media persons, MUSU president Mayanglambam Dayaman said that the VC 's frequent and unjustified trips outside the State has completely muddled the academic calendar and degraded the academic atmosphere.
Alleging that the VC never notifies the MU authority before his trips as well, Dayaman said that the situation has also caused immense inconveniences to the teachers, apart from the students.
The statutory posts of the university like Registrar, Examination Controller and Librarian are all in-charge and not regular, which is a cause of great concern when any developmental work comes up during the VC's absence.
Dayaman further alleged that VC has not taken up any steps to fill up the empty posts of teachers and faculty of the university till date.
Questioning what the VC and the university authorities have done regarding MUSU's demand for removal of the Assam Rifles posts inside the university campus, Dayaman conveyed that MUSU will continue to launch various forms of protests but clarified that the protests will not disturb any of the ongoing semester examinations of the university.
