Demanding the authority concerned to book the killers of B Pitaranjan (Korabin) of Nongmeibung who was found dead on April 24 at Kangkum village in Ukhrul district after he left home to visit a friend (a girl) on April 19 morning, the JAC constituted against the death today locked down various Govt office buildings located in Imphal East district and blocked a number of roads, crippling all forms of transportation.
Govt offices including trade centre, apparel training and design, Directorate of Census Operations, Office of the Livelihood and Business Incubator and an office chamber located in DC Complex were locked down by the protesters.
Convener of the JAC P Jina told media persons that the authorities concerned have failed to take up any positive steps to nab the culprits who were behind the killing.
Even though Daniel Ningshen and his daughter (whom Pitaranjan went to meet) are in police custody for interrogation, the Police Department has failed to bring out any statement.
The protest will continue unless the demand of the JAC is met by the State Govt, she added.
As part of the protest, roads leading to Imphal city were shut down by the locals blocking all form of transportation.
Business establishments in and around Nongmeibung area came to a standstill.
To prevent any untoward incident, a number of police personnel were seen deployed in and around the area.
Supporters of the bandh blocked roads at many places by placing tree branches, logs and burning tyres.
It may be mentioned that Bachaspatimayum Pitaranjan (Korabin) Sharma (22) son of B Shantikumar Sharma of Nongmeibung, Old Checkon bazar left home to visit a friend (a girl) at Kangkum village in Ukhrul district on April 19 morning.
On April 22, the family members of the friend informed the family members of Pitaranjan at about 2 pm that he left the village on April 21 at about 8 am and inquired whether he had reached home.
On hearing this, the family members of Pitaranjan grew suspicious and the following day (April 23) an elder brother, B Prabin Sharma, went to Kangkum village and he (Pitaranjan) was found dead on April 24 in suspicious manner.
