Imphal, February 02 2016:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) today conducted a party conference to discuss the issues to be included in the election manifesto of the party for State Assembly elections 2017 .
Speaking at the conference, MPP president Nongmeikapam Sovakiran said that the conference was held to adopt the points raised by the members of the party.
These points would be mentioned in the election manifesto of the party for State Assembly elections 2017, he said.
Regarding the news of election of AK Sanaton as the new MPP president, Sovakiran clarified that AK Sanaton, Ojit and Singhajit are expelled members.
A case regarding the matter is still pending in the Court, he said.
Sovakiran said that they would sue the trio for allegedly defaming the oldest regional political party in the North East.
Regarding Sanjit-Rabina case, Sovakiran said that the law would take its own course as Herojit has confessed that he killed Sanjit to follow the order of his superior officer.
Saying that action must be taken against the guilty police personnel and officers, Sovakiran said that political leaders involved in the incident must also step down on their own.
The resolutions adopted in the conference were keeping State's territorial boundary intact and maintaining transparency and inclusion of experts in the demarcation of boundary lines, repeal of AFSPA, befitting punishment to State actors involved in fake encounters, early approval of three ILP Bills to change them to Acts, setting up of highways protection force, revamping NH-53 as an all-weather road, establishment of Lok Ayukta, introduction of agro-forestry and double cropping to reduce unemployment.
