Imphal, January 02 2015 :
Forty social organisations yesterday protested against the State Government's decision to continue with the excavation work at Tombisana High School complex where at least eight human skulls and skeletal remains were found last December.
A protest was staged under the joint banner of Civil Society Coalition on Human Rights in Manipur and United Nations (CSCHR) and Families of the Voluntarily Disa- ppeared Association (FIDAM) yesterday demanding an immediate halt to digging and to barricade the site from unauthorised people.
The protestors demanded the Government to constitute a high-level commission of inquiry headed by a retired Judge immediately so that systematic excavation at the school premises can be initiated to collect more evidence.
The protestors shouted slogans holding placards that read "Repeal AFSPA, "We want justice," "Stop destruction of evidence," "Stop militarisation of Tombisana High School campus" and "Justice is our right" .
The human skulls and bones were discovered at the construction site of a new market complex opposite to the old legislative Assembly complex here on December 26 .
