The Liangmei Naga Council (LNC) Manipur condemned the Ukhrul incident where two individuals were killed and several injured during police firing, according to statement issued by the Vice President of LNC Manipur.
The high handedness and the barbaric act of the State police force must be condemned by all the right thinking people, the statement asserted.
It also called for the Government of India's immediate intervention to save the civilians from the hands of the State police force.
Volunteers of Manipur Students' Association Delhi (MSAD) and others gathered at the University of Delhi on August 31 and paid condolence to late Mayopam Ramror, s/o LR Hangyui of Teinem Village, Ukhrul and Ramkashing Vashi, s/o L Christopher Vashi of Teinem Village, Ukhrul) who were killed in police firing to suppress a public demonstration held in Ukhrul.
In addition to candle lighting and two minutes silence, MSAD raised various slogans condemning the Ukhrul incident.
The Naga People's Front, Ukhrul in the press statement termed the Ukhrul incident as a deliberate act.
The popular demand for lifting of Section l44 CrPC and withdrawal of IRBs and CDOs from the town was brushed off by the State Government.
Had the Government shed the arrogant attitude and seriously viewed the collective voice of the people, such ugly incident could have been averted, the statement added.
The government deployed the state security forces in Ukhrul Town on the pretext of maintaining law and order and prolonged the imposition of the Section 144 CrPC much against the wishes of the people.
The statement said that Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam have miserably failed to protect the innocent lives and be held responsible for the despicable and brutal act.
The NPF Ukhrul Division in the statement also demanded the institution of judicial probe headed by a High Court Judge for the criminal act of lapses and negligence committed by the government.
It further asserted that the State Government should tender apology to the people for the commission of barbaric act against the people.
The statement demanded immediate imposition of President's Rule in the state as the SPF government has completely failed to protect the lives and disproportionate force was used to the peaceful rallies against the democratic norm and principles in the land of democracy.
Therefore, the Chief Minister and the Home Minister should resign on moral ground, NPF Ukhrul Division asserted.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) condemning the Ukhrul incident in the press statement asserted that the State security force had unleashed a reign of terror on the peaceful protesters resulting in the incidental killing of two individuals.
Stating that the imposition of Section 144 CrPC was to subdue unwanted situation, it however made the situation worse.
The statement demanded the State Government to initiate judicial enquiry on the incident and to withdraw the Section 144 CrPC form Ukhrul at the earliest.
The United NGOs Mission manipur (UNM-M); Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Tribe Morcha Manipur Pradesh and BJP, Manipur Pradesh also condemned the Ukhrul incident in their statement and urged the State Government to restore normalcy in the district.
The BJP, Manipur Pradesh demanded a judicial inquiry to find out the truth; the circumstances which led to bullet- shelling during the public agitation and the responsible person or authority.
It also demanded a penalty for the wrong doers.
Government of Manipur should initiate a process of negotiated settlement to ease the present tension in Ukhrul town.
