Imphal, June 01 2013 :
Students and teachers of Little Master English Higher Secondary School, Samurou today took out a protest rally appealing to KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) to withdraw the monetary demand served by the outfit to the school.
The protest rally which started from the school campus ended at the starting point after reaching Machu Cinema Hall, Samurou.
The students carried placards which read "Stop monetary demand", "Make education a free zone" and "Save students' life" etc.
Speaking to media persons by the sidelines of the protest rally, secretary of the school's governing body Moirangmayum Thoiba said that some unidentified youngsters a delivered a letter to the school's North Block (Class IX to XII) Principal Haobam Premkumar yesterday afternoon at the school's closing hour.
The letter turned out to be a demand note of KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) which demanded Rs 50 lakhs from the school.
The Principal accepted the demand letter which was put inside an envelope thinking that it might be some documents from BSEM, COHSEM or Education Department, Thoiba said.
He claimed that the school was not set up with the sole objective of earning money.
"Our only profit is the education we are giving to children.
Little Master English Higher Secondary School is one of the private schools in Manipur which takes the lowest monthly fees from students", claimed Thoiba.
Admission fee ranges from Rs 300 to Rs 1200 while the monthly fee is just Rs 140-Rs 220 .
After subtracting monthly salaries of teachers and staff, the school earns little profit from the amount collected from students in the forms of admission fees and tuition fees.
These facts are known to the people of Samurou and surrounding areas.
Despite all these shortfalls, the school is giving due emphasis on quality education.
The school recorded 92 per cent pass percentage in this year's HSLC examination and the pass percentage in HSSLC Exam was 89 per cent.
The school has also produced position holders in the past.
Thoiba then appealed to the UG group to withdraw their monetary demand after considering all these facts in the interest of students.
