Imphal, November 30 2016:
The Manipur Sangai Festival 2016 wrapped up this evening with a colourful dance and music programme.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam graced the closing ceremony held at BOAT as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, O Ibobi remarked that Manipur is known across the world for its sporting tradition and rich cultural heritage, and the annual Sangai festival is aimed at highlighting the tourism potential of the State.
Manipur is inhabited by different communities, and all their grievances and aspirations could not be fulfilled at a time, he added.
All the communities of the State need to stand united and work for collective development, Ibobi asserted.
Ethno-exclusive aspirations and ideologies are antitheses to the very idea of Manipur.
The Government would not remain silent if any group challenges the plural characteristics of the State.
Every man/woman has his or her tolerance limits.
There has been no instance of any issue/problem resolved through violence in the history of mankind.
If any issue must be resolved, the most plausible way is dialogue, Ibobi asserted.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam remarked that collective celebration of Sangai festival despite the adverse impacts of bandh, blockade and demonetisation rang out a very important message.
"The festival rang out a message that we are all one and we could not be cowed down by intimidation", he stated.
He also prayed that the closure of the festival may herald peace, unity and development in Manipur.
