Imphal, December 31 2014 :
For the incumbent Congress Government, the year 2014 ended without any noteworthy achievement, remarked Janata Dal (United), Manipur State unit president M Tombi.
Speaking to some media persons at their Babupara office today, Tombi summarised 2014 as another year defined by involuntary disappearance of civilians after they were picked up security forces, rampant human rights violation, rapes, abduction for ransom and a series of fatal bomb blasts.
The Government need to roll up its sleeves and work ardently to identify the skulls and skeletal remains discovered from Tombisana High School campus.
The Government should abstain from doing anything which may destroy evidence.
Tombi said that he himself and the party's general secretary Lien Gangte took part in a joint meeting of JD(U), Samajwadi Party, JD(S), IND and RJD which collectively formed Janata Parivar at Delhi on December 21 and 22 .
During the meeting, JD(U) president Sharad Yadav talked about the adverse impact of AFSPA on the people of North Eastern States.
The meeting resolved to collectively fight all major issues of the country within the Parliament and outside.
Extending his new year wishes for a peaceful, progressive and united Manipur, M Tombi maintained that former UG cadres who have returned to the mainstream should be given all possible assistance for proper rehabilitation under a surrender policy.
The Government should take up necessary measures as a matter of urgency to make all CCTV cameras of Imphal city operational at the earliest as they are very helpful in the maintenance of law and order.
Noting that street lamps installed ahead of the Sangai Festival are not working any more, Tombi asked if the Government was wasting money by installing street lamps for a limited period.
General secretary Lien Gangte also conveyed best wishes to all the people of Manipur on the arrival of a new year.
