Imphal, December 30 2021:
Women Action for Development (WAD) has expressed discontent with the negligence shown by the Police Dept and the Chief Minister in curbing crime against women and children in the State.
In a statement, WAD has cited two specific incidents to highlight their grievances.
On April 2021, a 15 year old minor girl was sexually assaulted under the jurisdiction of Sagolmang police station, the satement added.
It may be noted that the matter was reported to Women's Police Station, Imphal East in November as the victim revealed the truth about the incident only then.
However, not only did the police fail to recover any evidence, but they failed to arrest the culprit as well.
Secondly and most recently, a missing person's report was filed at Lilong Police Station on December 23 for a woman who went missing on the 22nd.The statement questioned the functioning of the Police Dept on its failure to rescue the woman whose dead body was subsequently recovered on December 27 .
WAD further questioned if the Police Dept was established to protect the Govt or the citizens and appealed to the State administration to be more responsible and protect its citizens.
