The Naga People's Front, Manipur unit has blamed the State Government for the violence unleashed at Ukhrul town which led to the killing of two civilians.
Speaking to media persons at the Lamphelpat quarters of MLA Dikho this evening, NPF Manipur unit president Awangbow Newmai said that peaceful atmosphere of Ukhrul town was vitiated after the State Government promulgated CrPC 144 at the town coupled with heavy deployment of additional security forces which ultimately escalated to violent confrontation today.
NPF MLAs led by Awangbow Newmai today called on Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and apprised them about the situation at Ukhrul and also possible measures that can be taken up to restore normalcy.

The tense situation could have been avoided had the Govt listened seriously to the voice of the people which was earlier conveyed to the Government by NPF MLAs.
Innocent people of Ukhrul were kept under ransom for too long for no fault of theirs, Awangbow said.
He also condemned in the strongest term the brutal crackdown on rallyists by security forces.
He demanded punishment against police personnel involved in killing the two civilians and revocation of CrPC 144 from Ukhrul town.
