Imphal, October 29 2017:
In an obvious reference, but without naming, to the news item published in The Sangai Express under the caption 'NPF pledges Naga integration,' one group of the Naga People’s Front, Manipur State Unit today asserted that Awangbow Newmai continues to be the president of the NPF, Manipur Unit and not Morung Makunga as reported .
In a statement issued to the media today, the NPF, MSU asserted that the party convened a meeting of all the office bearers, legislators and members of the State Executive Committee on September 13 this year at Hotel Imphal, wherein it was unanimously resolved not to accept the removal of Awangbow Newmai as the president of the State unit of the NPF .
Awangbow Newmai’s tenure as the president of the NPF MSU is from 2015 to 2020, as per the official approval given in the general convention of the party held on November 26, 2014, added the statement .
The appointment of Morung Makunga as the president of NPF, MSU came only after the crisis erupted at the centre, said the statement and added that it was done only to confuse the people .
It is clearly laid down that any appointment will be null and void once the crisis within the party was lodged with the Election Commission of India on August 17 this year, asserted the statement.
Hence the claim that Morung Makunga is the president of the State unit of the NPF is illegal and unofficial, said the statement and added that this is done to mislead the people and disturb the peaceful environment under the present Government led by Chief Minister N Biren.
