DESAM blames MU authority, JAC

Imphal, October 29 2016: Manipur University authority and convener of the JAC Against Implementation of State Reservation Policy in Admission in Manipur University must take responsibility for today's violent confrontation between MU students and DESAM volunteers, said N Edison, DESAM general secretary.

Speaking to media persons at their Keishampat head office today, Edison said that they took due permission from the MU authority for the reception function planned at MU centenary hall today in honour of elected student leaders of higher secondary schools and colleges.

But when they reached the main gate, they were detained and not allowed to go inside by some students of MU.

He said that the stiff opposition made by some students of MU students was highly condemnable and DESAM would not remain silent on the matter.

The unfortunate incident happened due to the failure of Manipur University authority to control the situation in time, he added.

Edison also said that DESAM president M Angamba and 9 others have been pulled up by police while no action has been taken up against those who triggered the confrontation and aborted the reception function.

He also said that some sections have been making extra efforts to project DESAM in the wrong light.

MU has been in turmoil for some time now.
