Kuki Inpi, CSOs hold 'Kumbul Kithin', resolve to oppose VA Act, ban poppy cultivation

Kangpokpi, March 29 2018:
Civil
society organizations of
Kangpokpi District, under the
aegis of Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi
District held 'Kumbul Kithin',
an exhortation meet at
Kangpokpi DHQs and adopted
resolutions over various issues
of the district.
More than 60 leaders of
various civil society organizations across the district
attended the meet where dif-
ferent agendas and issues of
Kangpokpi were deliberated
apart from motivational
speeches from Seikhomang
Khongsai, president Kuki
Inpi Kangpokpi District.
He said that the term
'Kumbul Kithin' signify the
practice adopted by the fore-fathers who, in the olden
days, held such meet in the
initial part of the year to encourage their leaders to work
collectively for the welfare of
the society throughout the
year.
After a thorough discussion on the Village Authority
Act, the Kuki civil society organizations under aegis of
Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District
decided not to welcome the
introduction of the Act while
resolving to oppose the Act if
any person attempts to implement in the district.
It also minutely deliberated
on the cultivation of poppy
plants and finally resolved to
impart and aware the people
about the impact of poppy and
accomplish total ban of its cultivation in the district from
2019, considering its grievous
impact upon the youths and
the society at large.
The meet also deliberated
on the alleged odd timing of
oil tankers convoy and its escorts crossing Kangpokpi
district along the NH and decided to urged the department
concerned and Government to
reschedule the timing considering its impact on the school
going children.
The CSOs leaders also deliberated on the jungle training
carried out by the Indian Army
at Twilang area in Tujang
Vaichong Sub Division,
Kangpokpi District and further decided to approach the
authority concerned for safety
and to ensure non-disturbance
of the prevailing peaceful environment.
While recognizing and
lauding the tireless efforts
and contribution of all Kuki
civil society organizations
within Kangpokpi District,
the CSOs Kangpokpi leaders
also resolved that any Kuki
organization within
Kangpokpi district should
obtain acknowledgement
from Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi
District for any development
undertaking in the district.
It also resolved that Kuki
Inpi Manipur fund should be
submitted within the month
of May and for that matter
the Lhang Inpis (Area wise
Inpi units) will be given responsibility to complete their
tasks before the stipulated
time.
The CSOs leaders further
resolved that any condolence
or funeral goers in
Kangpokpi District must don
black attires to show that
condolence is taking place
while exhibiting the mourning of the people.
It also resolved that any
Kuki traditional cloths including shawls, etc.
must be
valued and given due reverence considering its
importance and signification
while resolving that anyone
found undermining the traditional cloths of any of the
Kuki tribes shall be dealt
accordingly in future.
Many more agendas and
issues related with the district and welfare of the
people were also discussed
during the lengthy meet
which ended with a prayer.
