Imphal, November 28 2024:
The GOC of Leimakhong headquartered 57 Mountain Division must owe responsibility for the missing case of Laishram Kamalbabu, said Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) Working Committee chairman Th Manihar.
In a press meet held at Manipur Women Federation's office, Kakwa Boroimakhong on Thursday, Manihar raised suspicions about foul play in the disappearance of 'Mohori' Kamalbabu from inside the campus of 57 Mountain Division.
He continued that the disappearance signals a cover-up and demanded the GOC to take the responsibility.
Questioning how 10 Kuki MLAs could construct a "Tiger Road" within an Indian army campus for their movement, he demanded the state government to ascertain whether civilian roads could be set up inside an army campus.
If this is not allowed, the same should be banned immediately, he urged.
Manihar continued that central and state governments have been "pampering" Kukis for a long time including fulfilling demands for AFSPA in the valley (which was re-imposed in areas under some police stations), relieving the CM of power and others.
The central government's actions have only deepened suspicion about working in favour of the Kukis, he claimed and stressed the need for all to work together in this regard.
The Committee will organise a state-level meeting to deliberate on the evolving situation, he confided, whole seeking support of the people.
The chairman also demanded withdrawal of the internet ban order and ensure smooth conduct of classes in schools and colleges.
If needed, security coverage may be provided to allow the students study in peace, he suggested.
