Lamlei Enterprise starts packaging dry fish

Lamlei Enterprise has started marketing packaged dry fish.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, co-founder of the enterprise, Rakesh Khumanthem said that the enterprise is an undertaking of him and his business partner Thingujam Sunibala.
Lamlei Enterprise is situated at Samusang Shantipur Mayai Leikai, Wangoi, Imphal East.
Fresh fishes are dried at biomass heat generated dryer machine for 10-11 hours for packaging, said Rakesh adding that the enterprise sells packaged dried rohu, ngaton and hentak.
The co-founder informed that dry rohu (150 gm) is sold at Rs 355, dry ngaton (125 gram) at Rs 235, hentak (25 gram) at Rs 25 and hentak (175 gram) at Rs 150 .
Service providers such as Meira Foods, Manipur Times, Food Wifi, Eikhoi Arcade and Arambai 2020 help in marketing these dry fish products, he maintained and continued that they procure fishes from Shantipur Mayai Leikai, Moirang and Ithai.
Lamlei Enterprise was established in March 2019 and started marketing dry fishes from August 2019.Saying that fishes dried in biomass heat generated dryer machine are smokeless and can be preserved for about a year, the co-founder maintained that the enterprise has sold packaged dry fish worth Rs 3 lakh this year.
The enterprise is run by 327 staff, altogether, including the two co-founders.
"I have attended a 3-day training programme arranged by ICAR on fish drying," he said and added that the enterprise has signed an MoU with Central Institute of Fishery Technology, Kerela to help one another at time of needs.
Rakesh Khumanthem lamented that Lamlei Enterprise won the North East Start-up Entrepreneurship Competition organised by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship Guwahati in the Agri and Food Technology sector in January 2020 .
The prize of the competition, which carried a cash award of Rs 5 lakh was presented online on August 14, 2020 .
He said that the dryer machine was bought from the Central Agricultural University (CAU) at Rs 1.70 lakh.
Saying that the enterprise hasn't sought any help from the Government till date, Rakesh said that they will approach the Government as and when required.
