Imphal, November 27 2011:
Reacting to the call of Governor Gurbachan upon Manipuri women to act as mediators so as to bring revolutionary groups of Manipur to the negotiating table, the proscribed RPF has asked the Governor who is responsible for the misery and degeneration being faced by women and children of the land.
Referring to a speech given by Governor Gurbachan Jagat at 1st MR banquet hall yesterday, the outfit questioned whether the Indians or the British rulers were responsible for the innumerable number of killings and human rights violation committed during the British period.
"Did the British rulers coax Indian women to persuade Indian men who were then waging freedom struggle to suspend their struggle in order to avoid conflict with British imperialists ?", the outfit asked the Governor.
The existing conflict between India and Manipur would disappear by itself when India leaves Manipur, it claimed.
Degenerated and depraved situation of the present day Manipuri society is a gift of the 62 years of Indian rule over Manipur, alleged the outfit.
Quoting the Governor's statement that there are 2/3 villages in Punjab whose residents are all females without a single male, the outfit alleged that all the males of the said villages were murdered by the Indian army.
By talking about these villages, the Governor was hinting that the Government of India may unleash similar pogrom in Manipur too, the outfit alleged.
The Governor must understand that Manipuri women were not born to mollify the liberation movement in favour of the alien rule but they are committed to support the struggle, it asserted.
'The outfit further called upon the people of Manipur to analyse who are responsible for the present downtrodden situation of Manipuri society, what factors caused it and how long the society should drift in the present trend.
