Imphal, August 27 2013:
Janta Dal (United), Manipur State Unit has sought clarification from the State's Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu for his statement that the Indo-Myanmar border fencing was done from the security point of view and not for demarcating the international boundary.
Addressing media persons at JD (U) office, State President M Tombi said that the high power committee chaired by the Principal Secretary (Home) should look into possible solutions and submit a detailed report to the State Government on this border crisis, but the statement of Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu was very unfortunate.
He (Dr Suresh) must clarify to the people if the statement was just his own opinion or a statement which the Government had asked him to give to the people.
He further said that the people of Govajang and other villagers affected by the ongoing border fencing are citizens of India who are enlisted in the electoral rolls and benefitted by several schemes and programmes of the Indian Government.
But the border fencing has made their nationality blurred.
Tombi also demanded the State Government to stop construction of Myanmarese Army's base camp at Haolenphai and remove the border fences that have led to loss of large territory of the State.
The State President further maintained that the non-Congress parties had even submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister in New Delhi on the border issues.
The national leaders of the non-Congress parties are also prepared to raise the border issue in the ongoing Parliament session, he added.
