Imphal, October 26 2019:
The plan of the all political parties delegation to call on the Prime Minister at New Delhi today and pressure him to ensure that the Naga peace talks do not affect the integrity and political setup of the State has been dropped for now.
It may be mentioned that an all political party meeting presided by the Chief Minister was held on October 24 and a drafting sub-committee comprising a representative each from BJP, NPP, CPI, INC, MPP, Shiv Sena, LJP and NEIDP was formed as well.
The said sub-committee had drafted a memorandum to be submitted to the Prime Minister and a plan was chalked out to send an all parties delegation to Delhi today to submit the memorandum.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, a member of the said drafting sub-committee said that the plan to go to Delhi today has been cancelled as the team failed to get an appointment with the PM due to Diwali festival and declaration of Assembly election results in Maharashtra and Haryana.
The member informed that the sub-committee, taking into consideration the Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals in the State as well, decided to go to Delhi only after getting an appointment so as not to waste valuable time and resources.
The member further said that continuation of Thursday's (October 24) talks between NSCN (IM) top leaders and the Central Government will not be possible before Diwali and added that as such, rushing to Delhi to meet the PM today or tomorrow will be useless.
The member also opined that the talks between the NSCN (IM) and the Centre might take sometime before it is settled as the issue is about separate flag and constitution.
