Even as the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal has remanded the two persons who have been accused of killing a BJP leader Laishram Rameshwar to police custody, wife of Ayekpam Keshorjit (an accused) claimed that her husband pulled the trigger purely in self defence in a complaint registered to the Director General of Police.
The two accused Ayekpam Keshorjit (46), s/o (L) Kunjo of Haobam Marak Irom Leikai and Naorem Ricky @ Ponting (24), s/o Kesho of Keinou Thonthak Maning Leikai presently staying at Haobam Marak Irom Leikai were remanded to 13 police custody till February 6 by the Court today.
Convenor of BJP Manipur Pradesh Ex-servicemen Cell, Laishram Rameshwar (55) son of L Nimai of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai Makha Leikai was shot dead near his house on Tuesday at around 11 am.
It is reported that the post mortem of Laishram Rameshwor was conducted today at JNIMS morgue in the presence of Duty Magistrate with video coverage.
The mortal remains have been handed over to the family.
Meanwhile in a complaint lodged to the DGP, the complainant Ayekpam ongbi Laishram ningol Romila Devi claimed that her husband went to Thoubal yesterday to meet a beneficiary of PMKSY regarding the alleged failure of the Agriculture Department to issue an open public notice for selecting beneficiaries.
Claiming that her husband has been carrying out a field verification by reaching out to some persons since the last 20 days regarding the issue, Romila alleged that a former Nodal Officer of PMKSY of Agriculture Department however threatened her husband to stop searching for beneficiaries 'or face dire consequences' .
Ayekpam Keshorjit went to Thoubal Kshetri Leikai to meet a beneficiary but the former Nodal Officer called him and the wife of the beneficiary and had a verbal altercation, the complainant claimed and went on to allege that Laishram Rameshwar came to the spot, showed his gun and 'arrested' Keshorjit.
Further claiming that Rameshwar even accused her husband of demanding money and tried to shoot him (Keshorjit), the complainant claimed that he pulled the trigger to defend himself.
The complainant also claimed that Rameshwar was hired by the former Nodal Officer of PMKSY who she said is involved in corrupt activities.
She appealed to the DGP to initiate an inquiry and arrest the former nodal officer of PMKSY.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal, on the other hand, has remanded the two accused to 13 days police custody till February 6 .
The IO of the case through APP submitted that they have accepted the charges levelled against them and their remand to police custody is necessary for investigation.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded the two accused to 13 day police custody.
