Imphal, September 24 2023:
A group christened Meetei United Front (MUF) with its headquarters at Top Moirang Kampu has been formed to work in the common interest of all Meeteis living in Manipur and beyond.
Representatives of different organizations and volunteer groups are members of the newly formed MUF, apart from several other individuals who endorse the idea of the Front.
Speaking to the media at Top Moirang Kampu, convenor of MUF Akoijam Birendra said that the Front was formed to face all threats to Meeteis collectively and also to make the ethnic group more vibrant.
Stating that Kuki narco-terrorists from Myanmar have been attacking Meeteis and their villages since the onset of the violence on May 3, he added that the violence was orchestrated by these narco-terrorists and their associates to legitimise their demand of bifurcating Manipur.
The demand, however, is unacceptable to the Meeteis and won't allow disintegration of Manipur under any circumstances, Birendra maintained.
The gatherings observed two-minute silence as a mark of respect to all those who got killed while fighting to protect the State's integrity after hoisting the flag of the newly formed Front.
Retired District and Session Judge A Noutuneshwari Devi, Head of Department of Political Science of Kumbi College Leichombam Gopal, Editor of Sanaleibak daily Hemantakumar Ningombam, KBS company chairman Keisham Binodkumar and retired Director of Manipur police (Wireless) Moirangthem Raichandra attended the programme among others.
