Imphal, May 24 2021:
President of Shiv Sena Manipur State unit has called on the Chief Minister N Biren to allot the Health portfolio he had taken over to one of the deserving MLAs to effectively deal with COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press release issued to this effect, president of the State unit Moirangthem Tombi took note of the fight against Covid-19 with selfless Covid warriors at the frontline.
At the helm is the Chief Minister taking the role of a 'king' but what the State needs at this point of time is a dedicated Health Minister who can serve as a 'Senapati' to the king, M Tombi said.
The fight against Covid can be more effective if the Chief Minister assigns the Health portfolio to one of the able BJP MLAs, he opined.
The Chief Minister is literally overloaded with portfolios and as such it may hinder him from discharging his responsibilities fully, especially during this pandemic time, said M Tombi who also asserted that frontline warriors are in need of a Health Minister who can lead from the front.
The move will not only strengthen the State Government but also gain support from various quarters, the Shiv Sena State unit president said.
The State is currently witnessing the wrath of the second wave but diminishing resources and shortage in essential commodities among thousands of households are becoming an issue, he said and questioned as to how long can the people be kept within their homes.
M Tombi also asked how much it will cost to the Government if it ensures adequate supply of essential commodities and financial assistance to the affected family members living within containment zones during the containment period.
While reminding the State and the Central Government of its role to save lives and protect properties of the citizens, M Tombi also expressed concern over frequent transfer of CMOs in the State which may likely affect the fight against Covid.
Putting forth the ill effects of flouting SOPs, M Tombi also appealed to the people to strictly follow SOPs to curb the spread of the virus.
Urging private healthcare institutions not to take advantage of the situation and pose a burden to poor family members who come to seek treatment, he also appealed to the State Government to regulate rates of treatments at private hospitals.
He also stressed on the need for raising awareness on 'Black Fungus and White Fungus' by constituting a medical team.
