Wife held as accused in murder of husband

Pointing the finger of accusation, Bishnupur district police have arrested the wife of late Phijam Mohendro on the charge that she had a hand in the murder of her husband.
An accomplice of the wife has also been taken into custody as an accused.
This was stated by Hopeson Sapam, SP of Bishnupur district police during a press conference held at the SP Conference Hall today evening.
The lifeless body of Phijam Mohendro (46) s/o (L) Ph Nodiyachand of Takyel Kolom Leikai was recovered on April 21 at an inter-village road at Tamphakei Chagangei and a suo moto case was registered by Nambol police.
During the investigation of the case, statements of some friends of the deceased, close relatives and family members were recorded.
On getting specific inputs from reliable source and information gathered from various sources it came to be known that a 30 year old man identified as Longjam Dorendro s/o Ramesh of Toubungkhok was the last person seen along with the deceased on April 20 night.

Acting on this information a police team backed by Imphal West district police rushed to the residence of Longjam Dorendro yesterday but he was not at his residence, said the SP.
During the raid, the police came across clothes with blood stains and a blood stained two wheeler at the house Dorendro's uncle.
Later at about 3 pm the same day, the police managed to nab Dorendro from near his residence and on preliminary interrogation L Dorendro admitted to have committed the crime, added the SP.
Later the wife of the deceased, Keisham ningol Phijam ongbi Renuka (39) was also arrested.
It is learnt that she had colluded with L Dorendro in committing the heinous crime, said the SP.
One hammer and one chisel (Paijei) believed to be the weapons used in killing Dorendra were also seized from the spot where the dead body was found.
The SP however refused to divulge the possible motive behind the brutal murder, maintaining that the case is in the initial stage of investigation.
He also appealed to all not to impose bandh and blockade and instead urged the people to extend support and cooperation to solve the case.
On the other hand, Keisham ningol Phijam ongbi Renuka and Longjam Dorendro were produced before the Court of JMIC Imphal West II under heavy security along with the prayer for six days police remand.
IO of the case alleged that the crime was committed by Dorendro as per the direction of Renuka.
IO of the case prayed for seven days police remand so as to ascertain the facts and establish the motive.
After hearing the prayer, the Court remanded the accused persons to six days police custody till April 29 .
