SF man hurt in bomb attack

Imphal, November 23 2012:
One personnel of the 18th Sikh Regiment was hurt in a bomb blast triggered by UNLF's armed wing MPA at Konthoujam along Imphal-Jiribam highway under Patsoi police station this morning.
According to information culled from the spot, two bombs exploded simultaneously on the highway a few metres away from Konthoujam Lamkhai towards Khumbong at about 6.55 am today.
The two sites of explosion are just 20 feet apart.
The twin blasts were apparently targeted against a foot patrolling team of 18 Sikh Regiment attached to Patsoi police station and they left a personnel injured.
The injured personnel has been identified as Th Hepuni Mao.
Tough he was serving in 165th Territorial Army, he is attached to 18th Sikh Regiment.
He was hit by shrapnel on the neck.
He was on patrol duty together with a sniffer dog.
But the dog escaped the blasts unhurt.
Hepuni Mao was rushed to Leimakhong military hospital and his condition is said to be out of danger.
Moments after the explosion, the military personnel turned their wrath on some peasants who were harvesting paddy at the nearby field.
In addition to thrashing the peasants, six of them were pulled up for verification.
The whole area was also scanned after the arrival of reinforcement comprising troops of 18th Sikh Regiment and police.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by UNLF's senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba claimed that the bomb attack was carried out by a demolition team of the UNLF/MPA.
It also claimed that the twin blasts inflicted critical injuries on two military personnel.
The outfit said that MPA cadres have fanned out to different corners of the State to launch military offensive against the Indian military in collaboration with local militias.
On the other hand, a protest demonstration was staged today at Chingamakhong bus waiting shed against the act of triggering bomb blast at Chingamakhong Manipur College road last evening.
