"2432 UG cadres arrested since 2012"

A total of 2432 cadres of different UG groups were arrested since April 2012 till date and a sum of Rs 61,86,723 was seized from their possession.
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in response to a query put up by MLA L Ibomcha in the State Assembly during question hour today.
While 2415 UG cadres were arrested from the State, 17 were arrested from outside the State.
Out of them, 1154 are pre-sently under judicial custody and eight are under police custody while 1270 cadres have been released on bail.
Of the amount seized from the UG cadres, Rs 11,05,100 has been accrued to the State exchequer while the remaining sum of Rs 50,81,623 is in the custody of police.
Claiming that investigations are on against people involved in criminal activities, Gaikhangam said that police have been working to file charge sheets as soon as possible.
Responding to another question raised by L Ibom-cha, the Deputy Chief Minis- ter informed that 237 vehicle lifters were arrested since April 1, 2012 even though there was no case about arrest of robbers.
Four IRB personnel, three police men and three VDF personnel were involved in the vehicle lifting cases.
A total of 109 recovered vehicles have been returned to respective owners while 21 vehicles are still left with police.
Amongst the arrested vehicle lifters, 193 are currently lodged in judicial custody whereas 44 have been released on bail.
Charge sheet has been filed against one arrested person, while in the other cases, investigation is on.
All the security personnel arrested in connection with vehicle lifting cases have been placed under suspension, one VDF personnel has been terminated, Gaikhangam stated.
He conceded that B Samananda Sharma of Samaram Mayai Leikai, the accused in the rape case of a disabled girl from Thangmeiband Khoyathong which took place on July 26, 2013 is still at large.
B Samananda was declared a proclaimed offender by Court in October 2013.Police have been searching for him suspected places and one day he would fall in the hands of police, Gaikhangam confided.
